Udaipur Pages: The story of Class Eight from Dhol Ki Paati

Board exams in the realm of private schools are an important threshold, which are to be cleared not just with good percentage but also with excellence (beyond expectation) for a better academic track record and future career options. Teachers, parents, students, principals, all the stakeholders conduct themselves with utmost sincerity in the period between December and March. From extra classes, tuition hours, to mothers maintaining extra stocks of fruits, dry fruits, snacks, the student is given utmost attention and priority. Parents, elder brothers and sisters keep a constant check on study plans and completion of syllabus on time. Parent-Teacher- Association manifests in the most strongest way possible as to how the child is doing, what else is needed for a better academic result. Syllabus is completed well before the stipulated deadline and multiple revisions through at least two pre-board exams is made sure. And from here on, the seeds for a dream/a career option are sown. Udaipur Pages: Love - the door for child learning and education

As living beings, we all want to be treated as special and be showered upon love, like loads of love. Love can sprout in the form of seeds: seeds of sensitivity, seeds of respect and finally as plants and trees of intense love and care, with branches reaching upwards towards the sky. During my first orientation for the fellowship I am currently part of, a hall filled with 200 fresh graduates and post- graduates, we were asked by a very senior person, " what do you think is the basic need of a child, and what is it that we as institutions of education and learning, not providing them with?".  In response to this question, I answered that we need to make the child feel loved, to give him/her/other gender identities, the space to express feelings, thoughts, emotions and made to feel special.  As a child, I constantly needed attention (to the least), care, respect (while being punished physically for my mistakes) and the feeling of  love and appreciation from my teach...

Udaipur Pages: The blighting reality of Govt. Schools

When you enter into a private school, you head straight to the admin block and the karamcharis or the clerks tell you, at times in detail about the admission procedure. For more help, a receptionist helps you in knowing why you should make the school your particular choice for your children. As selection of school is important since you are making an important investment which will determine the future of your children. At stake is huge amount of money, time and energy. You pay dont just tution fee, your monetary investment includes bus fee, admission fee, exam fee among so many sums. It is indeed a huge investment for a period of twelve months. Education and its significance cannot be undermined as it not only helps you become literate but also takes care of holistic development of your child in terms of confidence, independence, risk taking, decision making, creativity and other traits for an all - rounder personality. All this results in a bright future as getting into a good col...

As all of us say, "I too have a dream."

How many of us dream for a career in Indian politics? Or let's say , do we dream about becoming a Sarpanch, a responsible member of our village panchayat or a ward panch?  Still today, many of us get shiver down our spine when we get into a deep thought about the situation of contemporary indian politics and wonder if it is really a safe, secured working place for devout individuals. Honest policemen, journalists, politicians make the headlines in mostly regional newspapers, as our national newspapers dole out more and more space to advertisers and those important individuals, on how they were killed at the hands of land mafias, mining mafias, and other mafias, how safe can we think is our political working sphere for young dreamers. After all, security of self, of job, of their loyalty is an utmost need. We can't take dreams for granted as we all know the power of dreams. I recently got to know through a friend that, how his family has spent nearly twenty two lakhs while p...

Encounters

After watching Shyam Benegal's Sardari Begum ,I slept happily last night after thinking about the movie and its various other aspects. It was the first movie in which I got to see, through the eyes of the great director, Shyam benegal, the pertaining issues at that period of time, the culture of the religious communities, the emerging culture of a woman being the protagonist in the film, the nexus of gender, religion, politics, personal relationships, sexuality, life of a woman reporter ,the society's perception of art forms like music and dance taken up by women and the understanding of sub-classical music forms like thumri, all woven together coherently with high degree of perfection. Feeling satisfied and empowered, I slept for good eight hours. The next day seemed usual except for a presentation which I was excited about since it involved great amount of hardwork and an opportunity to travel and talk to people neglected by the government and the ignorant society. I got re...

the notion of 'normalcy'.........

Just like other days , I left from my office at the time I usually do. The ten minutes walk from my office to the Central Sectretariat metro station's gate number one is usually the time when I talk to myself, if alone and ponder over the evening spent among senior and intellectual print journalists. As I reach the metro station and pass through the security check with a smile on my face and a touch of celerity in my body language, my eyes start looking for people having tired, weired, happy, angry and other possible expressions being carried as a tote from the day's events. Sometimes I see young couples giving a caress smile as they part ways for their separate metro lines and telling each other through their eyes and smiles"shall meet you tomorrow , pakka" , whereas students having their board exams round the corner are busy solving sums provided they get a seat or else learn something from their register, some are in rush to catch the standing train and some are...
The Republic Day 2014: For the first time in my life , i woke up so early , got ready in twenty minutes and left the hostel amidst heavy fog with the temperature dipping to 9 degree celsius to attend the 65th Republic Day.I am not a passionate nationalist. I just wanted to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister of Japan and also the Chief Guest for this year's festival , Shinzo Abe , not knowing however that he will come packed in a black sleek Mercedes - Benz. Even though I reached the venue on time , I could not see any proper direction boards which could easily show us the way for our seating venue. After asking fifteen to twenty policemen and walking for aprroximately three kilometres , I reached the correct pathway and joined the right queue hoping that after some more minutes , I would be sitting inside comfortably watching the national festival. However , my journey's destination gates got closed and people with only VN passes were allowed inside. One uncle who was ...
