Just like other days , I left from my office at the time I usually do. The ten minutes walk from my office to the Central Sectretariat metro station's gate number one is usually the time when I talk to myself, if alone and ponder over the evening spent among senior and intellectual print journalists.
As I reach the metro station and pass through the security check with a smile on my face and a touch of celerity in my body language, my eyes start looking for people having tired, weired, happy, angry and other possible expressions being carried as a tote from the day's events.
Sometimes I see young couples giving a caress smile as they part ways for their separate metro lines and telling each other through their eyes and smiles"shall meet you tomorrow , pakka" , whereas students having their board exams round the corner are busy solving sums provided they get a seat or else learn something from their register, some are in rush to catch the standing train and some are just too lazy to walk , so they tread like tortoise.
After reaching the platform, women standing in queue either check out each other or just wait patiently for the train so that they can reach safely and on time. The woman guard always looks through the crowd and possible tries her best to talk to women standing beside her.
Suddenly the impatient and patient eyes see a beam of light lighting the dark and daunting tunnel.Everyone gears up and the queue breaks leading to formation of a crowd having no shape and face. The train swiftly comes and stops sleekly, however people start coming out and going in, in the most rugged possible way.
Everyone tries to bag a seat so that their feets tired from the day's work can relax and hurt less in those plastic, leather and clothe shoewears.
Since I know I never succeed in bagging a seat, made a dwarf attempt towards the same. Two people already sitting made some space for me and then I sat. One of them looked at me and asked are you comfortable?Lost in my own thoughts, i heard have you come first?
I asked the person to repeat again and came to know that the person was enquiring if i am confortabl.I said "yes yes I am, thank you". Then the person again looked at me and said "you are looking beautiful and I like your face shape". I was surprised for the fact that strangers hardly talk to you, leave alone complementing your looks. I said thank you with a gentle smile.
The individual said "i like your earrings, can you show me one of the pieces"?I said yeah sure and gave her one of the pieces after taking it out.
The individual admired the design of the junk jewelry which I bought last Friday from Janpath and asked if I can give the piece for the same amount as i bought it for. I am an avid lover of junk jewelry. So i humbly refused but promised to gift a similar piece. So i took the contact number and assured that i will gift a similar one in near future and while I was saving the number in my cell phone which performs utterly bad by hanging my work and itself in middle, the individual's friend sitting beside me said save it as "........KINNAR", following which i got angry and alomost made myself clear by saying"no i will save it with the individual's original name and surname"and saved the number by HER ORIGINAL NAME.
The happiness could be seen on her face who loves belly dancing, loves to dress up and act like a model, loves beautiful earrings , is studying Computer Science and simulateously runs a dance academy and is very career oriented.
She craves to live with her family in which her mother and sister are very supportive but the patriarchal members continue their legacy of making all other genders feel uncomfortable, ruled and dictated by.
At the age of eight, her ant made her realise that she is a kinnar. She ,a small child thought "it was cheap to be a kinnar". Her mother provided her the solace and support and after her higher education , she was married to her "lover", who is also very supportive.
She was after her marriage taken away from her family by a group of 'kinnars' and was encoraged and transformed into what she stands for and is today. She told me about the distinct and discriminatory attitude of poeple passing by and around her.
She trusted me so much that she even showed her 'Karva choth' photos and other photos taken at special occassion. Trust me she was equally looking beautiful and pretty like other married 'women' of her age.
She asked my name and hearing my surname same as her's asked if i am a brahmin and i said yes to which she also gave a 'same - pinch ' look.
Seeing me talking happily with and to them , another women dressed intensly as she was going to attend marriage ceremony also satrted talking to her . My lady complemented her as well and said "sundar lag rhe ho".
She was almost on the verge of crying while telling her story but stopped her tears. The woman was positive, fearless, proud and amazon. She didnt stop blessing me and as my station came she kept waving at me and advised to go safely also reminding that she will wait for my call.
I assured her and myself that yes i will give a call to her for a good pair of earring.
From the platform till my PG, all I did was smiling , thinking, thanking and feeling blessed.
Hunt for a good pair of earring.
